Overview
The DBS was being shown on and off as a concept car on the auto show circuit, and even made an appearance in a James Bond movie before it officially debuted for the 2009 model year as a new flagship for Aston Martin. The DBS nameplate was first seen on the 1960s grand tourer coupe, and now reappears as an upgraded version of the DB9. Compared to its platform-mate, the DBS ditches the small rear seats and gains an aggressive body kit. This two-seater coupe has a bonded chassis made of lightweight magnesium alloy, carbon fibre composite and aluminium. A DBS Volante convertible came later. It is the first production Aston Martin to make extensive use of carbon fibre body panels. Power comes from an upgraded hand-built 6.0-litre V12 engine derived from the DBR9 race car, mated to a 6-speed manual and rear-wheel-drive.
