BMW 6-Series Coupe 2005 Overview

The all-new 6-Series was introduced in 2003, filling the hole in the line-up left since the end of the 8-Series. The last actual 6-Series was around back in the 1980s. Based on the underpinnings of the 5-Series, the new 6-Series was introduced with a 4.4 L V8 engine for the 645Ci, which has since been replaced by the 650Ci with a 4.8-litre V8 in 2006. In 2004, a more affordable inline 6-cylinder engine was introduced in the 630i. This was soon followed by a convertible model. Unlike that of the new 5-Series and 7-Series models, the styling of the new 6 Series has generally received a warm welcome from the public, for unknown reasons. The new 6-Series was designed to look like a shark, and really does remind you of one, but it is far from good-looking. The controversial "Bangle-butt" rear styling works somewhat better on the shapely 6-Series than on other BMW models though. The 6-Series has become the vehicle of choice for rich town-cruising yuppies, but it is actually an excellent performance car, available with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

BMW 6-Series Coupe 2005 Reliability & Resale Value

Reliability
Resale Value
Known Problems If "check engine" light turns on, with rattling sound from engine, it is due to leak in oil line for variable valve timing system. In early convertibles, top may not lower because a sensor in the rear window may not be reporting that the window is down. Night vision display malfunctions due to wiring harness damage near headlights. Automatic headlights may not go off when exiting a tunnel or parking garage due to miscommunication between rain sensor and headlight module. Runflat tyres wear out by 30,000 kms.
