A tribute to the discontinued Hummer H1 which was based on the military Humvee, the Hummer H2 is based on the Chevrolet Tahoe platform. Technically larger than the original H1, the H2 platform has actually been modified for proper off-road duty in keeping with the Hummer name. In 2005, the Hummer H2 wagon was joined by a second model called the SUT, or Sport Utility Truck. The SUT version, as its name implies, looks like a pickup, characterized by its unique tailgate, short pickup bed, and a standard tailgate-mounted full-size spare tyre. The new 6.2-litre V8 was introduced for 2008, mated to a new six-speed automatic and a mild facelift that includes a new interior. Features include air suspension, roof rack crossbars, an AM/FM 6-disc CD changer, leather seats, onboard air compressor, ESP, ABS brakes, numerous airbags, reverse camera and a first aid kit. Options include exterior chrome appearance package, 17-inch or 20-inch chrome wheels, chrome tubular assist steps, navigation and a third-row seat for the wagon. The Hummer H2 offers truly impressive off-road capabilities. However, its size makes us wish it was banned from on-road use.
