2006 BMW X3

The smallest 4WD in BMW's lineup debuted in 2004, and got a facelift in 2005 to improve its ugly looks. The X3 slots in below the more expensive first-generation X5, but has almost the same passenger space, more cargo volume, and is also lighter and therefore more fuel-efficient. Like the X5, the X3 seats five passengers, has a liftgate with a fixed glass window, and includes BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive. Engines include a weak 2.0-litre 4-cylinder, a 2.5-litre 6-cylinder and a 3.0-litre inline 6-cylinder. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on all models, while a 5-speed automatic with manual shift gate is an option. The ground clearance is far from impressive, so X3 is only good for light-duty off-roading.
