Skoda Fabia 2009 Overview

The Fabia gets a total redesign for the 2009 model year, losing its conservative skin for a more funky appearance. Inside and out, the level of quality has apparently been upgraded. Skoda seems to be offering only one engine in most GCC markets, namely an unremarkable 1.6-litre 4-cylinder unit. The Fabia RS became available in 2012, with a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder that has both a turbocharger and a supercharger. The 1.6-litre front-wheel-drive 5-door hatchback comes with a choice of either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed manually-shiftable automatic transmission, although in all likelihood, dealers will never have a manual version in stock. The 1.4-litre RS version has a 7-speed DSG automanual. Safety features include ABS, dual front airbags and height-adjustable rear headrests. Features available on the Fabia, depending on trim level, include power windows, cloth upholstery, electric mirrors, foglights, keyless entry, alloy wheels, CD stereo, and the option to have a white-painted roof. A special-edition Fabia Monte Carlo model was offered for 2012 with the 1.6-litre engine, 16-inch wheels, black accents, special trim bits and sports suspension. The RS has 17-inch wheels, auto a/c, sports suspension, unique bumpers and optional LEDs up front. The quirky Skoda is an interesting alternative to the usual sub-compact choices, dubious VW origins notwithstanding.
