Volkswagen Passat 2007 Overview
The Passat has been a trendsetter for VW over the years, earning a distinction as the most copied design in automotive history. Many cars now look like a Passat, so the new one is now a larger car that attempts to reinvent itself. The all-new VW Passat boasts a few powerful new engines, a few weak engines, generous standard content and a high-quality interior mixed with high-tech hijinks. Volkswagen has rolled out a full line of four-door sedans, ranging from the poor 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre affordable models with nice leatherette upholstery to the more-powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged 2.0T model that just manages to be likeable, and a purely leather-clad V6-powered 3.2-litre V6 model that is destined to be extremely rare thanks to a bloated price tag. All cars are front-wheel-drive, with the exception of the all-wheel drive V6 model. All Passats come standard with the latest in safety features and electronics, including power features, front and side airbags, ABS brakes, ESP, tyre-pressure monitoring system and MP3-capable CD player.

| Known Problems | Main complaint seems to be with the much-publicised "high-quality" cabin trim, with rattling noises, flimsy parts, poor leather stitching and even the sticker on the gear knob coming off. Problems with power steering rack fixed under warranty. Some report CD player or navigation system fault that drains battery, as well as electronic central-locking module that causes the luggage-trunk lid to open by itself. Common problem of electronic parking brake not willing to release. Some report radiator failure, a/c leaking water into cabin, non-working wiper motors, repeated cruise control module failure, and issues with module that controls power windows and locks. False airbag warning light fixed by replacing defective connecter under seats. If "check engine" light comes on, lines for "evaporative emission system" should be cleaned and purge regulator valve should be replaced. |
