Chevrolet Silverado 2014 Overview
An all-new Chevrolet Silverado was released as a 2014 model year. Exterior-wise, the styling carries pretty much the same DNA as the previous model but the new front fascia seems more imposing now. That is because they have added bigger headlights and a huge grille. GM consciously kept the design similar as, unlike the UAE where big pickup trucks are more of a statement, in the U.S. market it is a high volume seller among conservative buyers. A Z71 package is available which includes stronger shocks, front tow hooks and extra under-body protection. The interior is where the main changes will be, with the new 4.2-inch display on the dashboard. More soft-touch material has been added around the cockpit. The new Silverado pickups will have 12-volt outlets, five USB ports and a SD-card slot. A new 4.3-litre V6 engine adds to the family of 5.3-litre and 6.2-litre V8 motors. They will all be mated to a six-speed automatic. For improving fuel economy, the V8 engines have cylinder deactivation and direct injection.

| Known Problems | In the US, there were recalls for the brake pedal which may come loose, front airbag which may not deploy, driver's seatbelt tensioner which may separate, ignition lock actuator which may bind, improperly heat treated rear axle, fuel tank vent line which may be loose, chance of loss of power steering assist, front seats which not remain anchored, transfer case which may shift to neutral, power steering fluid which may leak, absence of warning chimes, fuse box which may come loose, and overheating of exhaust which may cause leak. Few owners reported warped dash, loose knee bolster, noise from the rear doors of the extended cab, harsh gear shifting which needed software update, multimedia system freezing when using Apple carplay, harmonic balancer failing, rough idle when stopped in gear, and AC controls malfunction. |
