Road Test: 2026 Jetour T2 iDM

The Jetour T2 has quickly built a reputation in the UAE as one of the most value-packed SUVs in its segment. With its rugged styling and strong feature list, it struck a chord with buyers looking for something different from the usual crossovers. Now, Jetour has taken things a step further with the T2 iDM, a plug-in hybrid version that adds serious performance and efficiency into the mix. On paper, it promises 600 hp, up to 140 km of electric-only range, and a combined range of 800-900 km. But does it actually deliver where it matters?

Exterior

The T2 iDM sticks closely to the design that made the standard T2 popular – a boxy, upright SUV with clear inspiration from classic off-roaders.

The front end is dominated by a large mesh grille, flanked by LED matrix headlights that give it a modern, tech-heavy look. The DRLs and bumper-mounted lighting add presence, especially at night.

From the side, it looks properly rugged. High ground clearance, squared wheel arches, and strong shoulder lines give it a purposeful stance. It doesn’t try to look sporty, it leans fully into that off-road identity.

At the rear, the tailgate-mounted spare wheel and squared LED taillights complete the look. It’s distinctive, and more importantly, it stands out in a sea of rounded crossovers.

Our tester had a host of accessories that you can get installed from the dealer. It has the painted bumpers, graphics on the hood, utility box on the side and more premium alloy wheels.

Interior

Step inside, and the T2 iDM shifts from rugged to surprisingly premium.

The cabin features leather upholstery, suede roof lining, and soft-touch materials across most surfaces. It feels well above what you’d typically expect at this price point.

The layout is clean and tech-focused, highlighted by a large 15.6-inch infotainment screen and a fully digital instrument cluster. Ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof add to the overall sense of space and modernity.

It’s a five-seater, with ample boot space. It has 738 litres of cargo room and if you need more, fold the second row seats down and you get a massive 1,482 litres of space.

Jetour T2 iDM Performance & Hybrid System

This is where the T2 iDM really separates itself. It uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with dual electric motors, producing a combined 600 hp and 910 Nm of torque. That’s serious output, more than what you’d expect from SUVs costing significantly more.

Despite the headline numbers, the performance delivery is smooth rather than aggressive. The instant torque from the electric motors makes city driving effortless with no throttle delay, while highway overtakes are quick and confident.

Jetour claims a 0–100 kph time of 5.5 seconds, and in real-world conditions, it feels genuinely quick. The battery helps the T2 deliver instant torque at the touch of the pedal, which is missing in the petrol version.

For buyers, the hybrid system is where it makes the most sense:

  • Up to 140 km of electric-only range covers most daily commutes
  • Combined range of around 800-900 km reduces long-distance fuel stops

It’s essentially an EV for the week, and a long-distance cruiser for the weekend.

Jetour T2 iDM Off-Road Capability

While many hybrids focus purely on efficiency, the Jetour T2 iDM still leans strongly into its off-road positioning. It comes with multiple terrain modes, including Eco, Normal, Snow, Rock, Mud and Sand, allowing it to adapt to different conditions with ease. The key highlight here is torque delivery. With 910 Nm available, it has enough low-end grunt to handle soft sand conditions more confidently than expected.

It also benefits from features like a tank turn function, which helps the SUV make sharper turns in tight off-road situations. That said, it’s still a relatively heavy SUV due to the battery pack, so while it can manage desert drives, it’s not a hardcore dune-bashing machine like a traditional body-on-frame off-roader. Instead, it positions itself as a capable lifestyle SUV with genuine off-road ability.

Ride & Handling

On the road, the T2 iDM is tuned more for comfort than sportiness.

The suspension is on the softer side and absorbs bumps well, which makes it a great highway cruiser. The cabin remains quiet, especially in EV mode, making it a relaxed cruiser.

As it is an SUV geared towards offroad and comfort, there is some bodyroll in turns. The all-wheel-drive and highway terrain tyres do help grip on roads to a certain point but you cannot defy physics.

Features & Tech

The T2 iDM comes well-equipped with a strong focus on technology and comfort. At the centre of the cabin is a large 15.6-inch infotainment system, which works smoothly in everyday use, with quick responses and clear graphics. Pairing a phone for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is straightforward and hassle-free, making it easy to integrate your apps on the go. It also gets a fully digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting that enhances the overall cabin experience, especially at night.

The seats are trimmed in leather and come with ventilation, adding to the comfort, although there is no massage function. The steering wheel controls can feel slightly unintuitive at first, but after a few days of use, most drivers will get used to the layout. Advanced driver assistance systems are also part of the package, reinforcing the T2 iDM’s tech-focused appeal for buyers who want a feature-rich SUV.

Jetour T2 iDM Price

In the UAE, the Jetour T2 iDM costs AED 159,000, which is in the range of most plug-in hybrid models, but blows away the competition when it comes to power and capability.

It also comes with a 10-year warranty, while the battery gets 8 years or 160,000 km warranty. This adds strong peace of mind, especially important for newer brands in the region.

Verdict

The Jetour T2 iDM isn’t just an upgrade, it’s a repositioning of what this SUV can be. It brings together that already proven popular boxy design, unexpectedly strong performance, real-world usable electric range, and strong value for money in a way that elevates the overall package.

The T2 iDM delivers a well-rounded mix of performance, efficiency, and everyday usability at a price point that’s hard to ignore, which is exactly why it’s likely to continue the T2’s success story in the region.
