BMW has announced that they will publicly debut their new X6 “sport activity coupe” at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2008. They have, however, released details on this confused vehicle, which will be powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-I6 and a 4.4-litre turbo-V8.

As the world’s first “sports activity coupe,” whatever that is, the BMW X6 will be available in two engine variants — the xDrive50i (4.4 V8 engine, 400 hp, 609 Nm torque) and the xDrive35i (3.0 inline six-cylinder engine, 300 hp, 406 Nm torque), both with Twin Turbo and direct injection.

Dynamic Performance Control is a standard feature that can direct torque to either rear wheel, further aiding steering in both dry weather and sloppier conditions. BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive technology, Dynamic Stability Control, optional Active Steering and Adaptive Drive are all available.

The interior is almost exactly the same as that of an X5, but without the headroom, although BMW claims generous space for four adults inside this four-seater, and four golf bags in the luggage area. It includes all the usual X5 toys such as iDrive navigation, multiple airbags, optional rear-seat DVD player and that joystick-like gear lever.

    off!

Update: The FJ traction control doesn’t fully turn off.

  6. The car is beautiful but the roof and the back are ugly.

  7. Wanted your opinion before I go out car shopping…

I like cornering fast but it seems a large 4WD/SUV is a better choice for daily 4hr commuting… so which reasonably priced, sensible vehicle would you suggest thats comfortable and one that I can enjoy driving (fast cornering, low body roll) ?

    Cheers,

Go for any of the “crossover” all-wheel-drive SUVs which cannot go offroad. Most have good handling.

  9. Your recommendation? Budget 150k?

That’s a big budget. Buy anything you want. Use the Nissan Murano as a starting point.

  11. i find it HOT!!!! looks and engine wise

  12. Last summer I took a road trip with my son from the East coast all the way to FL. While we were driving, we came across this beautiful black BMW X6. At first we didn’t know what it was, so my son accelerated to get near it. We probably annoyed the hell out of the driver because we kept trying to get different angle views (rear, side, front)of it. I loved the car!! I’ve bugged my husband so much about it, that he’s just ordered a new 2009 model for me. The arrival date is mid-December and I can’t wait. I feel like a kid waiting for christmas! I can’t understand why so many people say it’s ugly. It was love at first sight for me!!
