Kia Venga compact hatchback-van thing debuts

Kia Venga
Kia has launched a new “premium” compact crossover hatchback-MPV called the Kia Venga, which will go on sale in Europe later this year.

Ready to debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show next month, the Venga was designed and is manufactured in Europe. Its claim to fame is an unusually long wheelbase and a high roofline, both creating midsize levels of cabin space.

Every engine in the Venga line-up will be available with Kia’s fuel-saving “Intelligent Stop and Go” technology. The Venga will be marketed exclusively in Europe where consumers will be offered a choice of two 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines, generating between 75 hp and 115 hp.

The Venga will be equipped with a sliding 60/40 split rear seat that also folds flat into the floor to create a spacious cargo bay and, a twin-level boot floor and depending on model a tilt-and-slide all-glass panoramic roof.

There are no immediate plans to bring the Kia Venga to the GCC anytime soon, although it looks like an ideal replacement for the embarrassing Kia Carens.

  1. whatever Kia wants to call it but its a B-segment hatch like the soul is a C-segment Hatch. this will replace the rio in europe. and for the rest of the world a new Rio is in development.

The Carens and Carnival are expected to be discontinued as they arent doing well in any market.

    • It’s really too bad the Carens didn’t do well anywhere. I own a Rondo sold in the States, it truely is an awesome car. Not the best looking, but very useful. Great family car. I guess it’s too big for European cities and too small for Americans… Sadly most here are too attached to the Fuel guzzling SUVs that are wider than some streets in Paris.

  2. Hmm.. good looking kia.

  3. nice looking car…

  4. I WAS SOO ELATED WHEN I SAW THE VENGA.I AM LIVING IN GHANA HOW CAN I GET ONE.

  5. Own RONDO EX 2008 5-seater, a best “minivan” I ever had, simple and functional, great interior. I like it’s styling, clean and simple.
Good design! Discovering hidden KIA qualities…
I was hopping for new Rondo in 2014 – when all our warranties will be over (6 years, 120,000km).
Only 2 brands in CANADA in this true “mini-van” category: KIA RONDO and MAZDA-5 – since Ford cancelled importation of their nice C-MAX planned for next year…
KIA have all the space for new RONDOS!
