Peugeot 208 GTi ready for production debut

Keeping up with the auto industry’s latest trend of high performance pea-sized cars, Peugeot is almost ready to launch the production-spec 208 GTi. This particular “concept” came hot on the heels of the new Peugeot 208 hatchback, and debuted at the recent 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The exterior include a front mesh grille and chrome-clad double exhaust tailpipes. The concept apparently utilises fatter tires which widen the track with 18-inch rims.

The interior is supposed to be dressed in leather and fabric, along with an alcantara-clad dash. The gauges are made of brushed aluminium and a unique small-size steering wheel completes the deal.

While the detailing is largely similar to the normal 208, the GTi is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine that churns out a stunning 200 hp. On the transmission front, automatic-haters are in for a treat, as the GTi will only be housing a 6-speed manual and there are no immediate plans for the auto tranny.

While the regular 208 has yet to make its way to the GCC, the GTi will likely reach the UAE and other regional markets sometime next year at the latest, possibly badged as a 208 RC.

Keep track of updates in the Peugeot buyer guide.

  1. Front & interior design are nice.. rear is gonna take sometime getting used to. Love the suede finish on the dash. Think this is the first vehicle to have DRL fitted right under the bonnets hood.

  2. is it going o be cheaper than yaris and tiida…?

  3. I doubt its going to be cheaper, considering it comes with 18 inch rims, turbo, premium interior and good looks…Hopefully it wont overtake the pricing of Mini and Alfa Mito…
