Toyota Camry 2016 enters Australian production for GCC, will come from Thailand after 2017

2016 Toyota Camry

The heavily-updated new-generation Toyota Camry has been in American production and on sale in the States since late last year as a 2015 model, but it’s only just started production at Toyota’s Australian plant, 70% of whose output is destined for the Middle East. But there’s more to the story.

According to News.com.au, Toyota has poured a lot of money to re-do the Camry, but it will stay in Australian production only till the end of 2017, at which point Toyota will shut down all Aussie production. Mitsubishi has already done shut down production there, and General Motors as well as Ford will soon do, marking the end of the Australian car-manufacturing industry.

Early speculation suggests the Camry will be sourced from Thailand after 2017, which should theoretically reduce costs for Toyota.

Expect the still-Australian 2016 Toyota Camry to make its UAE and GCC debut over the summer.

  1. Sad to see Australian production end… Thai made… na I will pass

  2. Good to know that the “heavily updated camry” is going to be offered in the GCC. But as Prado said “sad to see Australian production end”.

  3. Saw this new shape in red color a couple of weeks back in DIFC where toyota was shooting an ad for this…

Looked nice, didnt liked the backlights though..

  4. Look who are talking about Thai production. Those who need help to even manufacture needle back home and even if they know how to , the needle quality will be compromised. Way to go Toyota.

Indian engineering is appreciated worldwide. Mercedes Benz gets its parts supplied from Tata’s plant in Maharashtra, BMW again has got a plant in Chennai. Indian engineers are preferred as they are efficient and diligent. The production costs are low, as labor is cheap. So kindly get yourself thoroughly informed before you comment.

  5. Indian engineering is appreciated worldwide. WTF

funny story same like tata made NANO super techno car & super flop dude. wake up buddy . india can born more & more babies.hahahaha

  6. Doesn’t matter in which country they manufacuture. They have improved their built quality in Yaris that is made in Thailand too which is being sold here in UAE. So if Camry is manufactured in Thailand I can expect it to be more good than the present Camry.

    • Oh yes it does..

the US made Honda Accord of 1998 – 2001 had gear box problem, which a US vendor pointed as the culprit. The Jap made accord of the same period had no known issues.

Suggest you go read consumer reports, no every one came manufacture to the same level of precision.
