The 2017 Subaru BRZ has been updated with small power and performance upgrades. The exterior and interior gets minor changes as well.

The engine of the Subaru is still the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder boxer unit which, when coupled with the 6-speed manual gearbox, produces 205 hp and 211 Nm of torque, up from the previous 200 hp and 204 Nm, thanks to the new aluminum intake manifold and redesigned exhaust manifold. The 6 speed automatic however, still retains the old output figures. The gearing ratios have been tweaked a bit too, which along with the increased power, may shave off a bit from the acceleration times. An additional Performance Package can be ordered which will add SACHS Performance shock absorbers and 17-in x 7.5-in black aluminum alloy wheels. The Performance Package also adds Brembo calipers and larger rotors on both front and rear brakes for better stopping power.

Subaru has also updated the BRZ’s handling by stiffening the chassis by reinforcing the strut tower braces, transmission cross-member plate, and rear wheel housings. The springs and dampers are also tweaked in order to be more responsive and the addition of a larger stabilizer bar at the rear rounds up the picture. On the safety front, Subaru has left more crush room in front and on the sides of the engine. The front seat frames have been strengthened in order to minimize the chances of whiplash injuries.

Visually, there aren’t any staggering changes on the outside as well as in the inside. The LED head and tail lamps are standard while the Limited variant comes with LED fog lamps. In the inside, the higher models are equipped with a 4.2-inch LCD screen which displays the required parameters of the vehicle. Changes in the upholstery are also a part of the interior update.

The 2017 BRZ will go on sale this September in the US, so it should arrive in the UAE and other GCC countries some time early next year.
