2018 GMC Terrain crossover revealed at Detroit

GMC has revealed their all-new 2018 Terrain crossover at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. Built on GMC’s D2XX platform, the 2018 Terrain resembles the bigger Acadia in many ways, but GMC has done quite a bit of work to keep the brothers differentiated visually.

The boomerang-styled headlights flank the massive chrome grille at the front (with even more chrome on the range-topping Denali trim). The tail lights reflect the same design language while the thoughtful placement of glass area gives the car a floating-roof effect. The 2018 terrain can be had in four trim levels, namely SL, SLE, SLT, and Denali.

The 2018 GMC Terrain has laid off its previous naturally-aspirated 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine to make way for an all-turbo line-up. The new petrol-engine portfolio includes a 1.5-litre inline-4 turbo good for 170 hp and 275 Nm, and a bigger 2.0-litre turbo which churns out 252 hp and 355 Nm. Buyers can also opt for a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel which produces a healthy 137 hp and 325 Nm. The diesel can be mated with a 6-speed auto while the petrols are paired with a 9-speed unit.

Inside, the Terrain features a new dashboard design that accommodates a 7.0-inch display for the infotainment system (an 8.0-inch display is also available). The infotainment system also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two requisites for a modern-day car multimedia system.

GM’s “Electronic Precision Shift” gear system has ditched a selector lever for some buttons that helped in making the centre console clutter-free, although no one can agree on whether reinventing the shifter is a good thing.

Surround camera system, forward-collision alert, GM’s vibrating safety-alert seat, low-speed forward automatic braking, and lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning are a few of the safety systems that are available in the new Terrain along with the lane-change alert and rear cross-traffic alert systems that exist in the outgoing model.

The 2018 GMC Terrain will go on sale in this summer in the United States, and probably by the end of the year in the UAE and other GCC countries. Prices will be announced closer to its launch.

Keep track of prices and updates in the GMC buyer guide.

  1. “How to make the worst gear selector”

I’m looking to see an interview with the designers of this car… why in the hell would you do that!

  2. If it’s was a BMW or Mercedes. .everyone would have said wow for gear selector….

  3. copied renault koleos headlights…toyata fortuner side profile. That fof light is close to useless.

  4. I dont know what they are thinking when they were designing the front LOL

  5. Buttons on the dashboard for selecting gears !!!!

What if I miss the stereo or aircon button and hit parking/reverse by mistake – the tranny would fall in the middle of Sheikh Zayed Road !!!

  6. 1.5l engine? Stop with downsizing, it is completelly destroying driving spirit!

  7. Interior and exterior is really good in this segment SUV. They really upgraded. And yes the buttons for gear selector is bit confusing, dont know what happen if we press P while driving. Guess they might have done some research on that and have a solution for it. Overall it looks really worth to buy it.
