Ford Bronco revival planned for 2020

Ford fans from around the world have been waiting for the boffins at Michigan to resurrect the legendary Bronco nameplate. The wait is now officially coming to an end. Ford has announced that 24 years after it got phased out, the Ford Bronco SUV is coming back in 2020.

The aesthetics of the new Bronco isn’t known as of now, even though hundreds of fan-made renderings have surfaced on the internet.

Ford says that the new Bronco will be an unadulterated off-roader with body-on-frame construction. The construction design will be on the same lines of that of other dedicated off-roaders in the market, although it might be closer to a Nissan Xterra than a Jeep Wrangler. Ford’s Product Development Chief Raj Nair says that the Bronco will be based on the new Ranger pickup truck.

Interesting enough, Ford already has an SUV built with the Ranger as its base. Sold in some markets as an Everest and as an Endeavor in some others, this SUV is believed to share some design elements with the upcoming Bronco.

The new Bronco is believed to be powered by an EcoBoost engine which has a ton of torque to suit its off-road creed. Ford may also drop a couple of its trusted Duratorq diesel engines into Bronco’s engine bay.

The Ford Bronco will go on sale in 2019 as a 2020 model. The 2019 Detroit Auto Show may host the unveiling of the Bronco’s reincarnation.

  1. Hope chevy do the same and brings back blazer k5 !

  2. looking forward.

  3. Meh, it’ll just be a $50k+ out-of-reach grocery-getter and will unfortunately not be as appealing as the rugged Bronco of yesteryear…
I hope Ford builds a true basic SUV without all the electronic bells and whistles that jack up the price into a luxury city-cowboy-wannabe vehicle his wife drives, or a status symbol for a retired old man who wants to look tough but is too weak to give up creature-comforts.
Utility isn’t luxury. Stop combining them!

  4. If ford is going to build a 2020 bronco, Then build a bronco and not just another small truck. The bronco was wide and tall and fearless, don’t destroy the bronco legacy.

  5. Agree with K-ster. I hope they keep this truck simple & affordable rather than cater to the old men who will never take it into wadi’s & mountains. I’m sticking with my old pathfinder cos no one seems to be making any new true Offroad vehicles any more, that have a good balance of ruggedness with minimum tech. The wrangler is an example but it doesn’t cater to everyone’s taste.
