Lamborghini Huracan Performante claims fastest ‘Ring time, allegedly

Recently, Lamborghini set all car discussion forums on fire by releasing a video of a 06:52:01 Nurburgring lap by their new Huracan Performante. This made it the fastest production car to lap the ‘Ring, beating the Porsche 918 Spyder by five seconds. The video didn’t give us a clear idea of what the car looked like. But Lamborghini is showcasing the Huracan Performante at the ongoing 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

The story under the hood remains unchanged as the Performante retains the 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 of the normal Huracan. But the power output has been hiked to 640 hp making it the most powerful V10 Lamborghini has ever produced. The 0-100 kph run will be over in 2.9 seconds while the top speed soars to 325 kph. The Haldex all-wheel drive system with a mechanical limited slip differential and the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox helps the car in laying this firepower down on the tarmac.

The aero-gimmicks are as impressive as the engine. Lamborghini’s Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA) system makes its debut on this car and this will adjust the front and rear spoiler in less than 500 milliseconds. This will aid in bringing down the drag in an outright sprint and in increasing downforce when the car takes on a corner. The system also allows aero vectoring, which channels the air to add downforce to the inside wheel during cornering. This is the first time a high-performance car is fitted with this wizardry. With all these, Lamborghini claims a mind-blowing 750% increase in downforce over the standard Huracan.

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante has also gone on a diet. Usage of new materials like Lamborghini’s “Forged Composite” short-strand molded carbon fibre has shaved off 40 kg from its weight, tipping the scales at 1383 kg. Other upgrades include a new magnetorheological active suspension, 10% stiffer spring rates, and variable-ratio steering. The standard carbon ceramic brakes make sure that the massive power is always kept on a leash.

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante is now being displayed at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. If you missed out on the Performante’s ‘Ring video, here it is. Doubts have been cast over its authenticity however, which you can read about here.
