The Nissan 370Z was conceived more than a decade ago. The little sports car was playing the baby brother to the R35 Nissan GT-R for a long while now. After years of yearning for it, the Nissan fans finally have an answer to their pleas. Nissan replaces the 370Z with an “all-new” sports car, the 2023 Nissan Z.
Nissan unveiled the Z Proto concept today, as the Japanese carmaker finally prepares to launch a replacement for the 370Z sports car. Shown at a virtual event hosted at the Nissan Pavilion in Yokohama, the prototype car features a new retro-themed design inside and out, as well as a V6 twin-turbocharged engine with a manual transmission.
The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance has been a troubled marriage, fighting through adversities including reduced market share, stronger competition and internal issues that came to a head with the spectacular rise and fall of former CEO Carlos Ghosn. With the Covid-19 pandemic hammering down on the industry, their struggle has only gotten worse. To counter this slump in business, the alliance has organised a contingency plan. Nissan has announced a 4-year plan which includes drastic decisions like shutting down plants and significantly trimming their lineup.
