Caterham quietly launched the classical Superlight R400 last week. Featuring a more rigid frame and a 2.0-litre Ford Duratec four-cylinder tuned in-house by Caterham Motorsport, the car has 210 hp on tap. But it only weighs 526 kg, or about the weight of two wrestlers, and can do 0-to-100 kph in 4 seconds.

Shifting involves a six-speed manual, and the car’s race-inspired themes are reinforced with features such as carbon-fibre fenders, a quick-release steering wheel, and 4-point belts. The base is still half-a-decade old, but still good enough to take on modern cars with these updates.
