2010 Ford Taurus SHO makes comeback

2010 Ford Taurus SHO
Back in the late 80s and up till the late 90s, Ford offered a tasty hyper-tuned version of their best-selling sedan in America, calling it the Taurus SHO, and powering it with Yamaha-tuned “Super High Output” engines that came from Japan. It died out later, but with the proper revival of the Taurus comes the rebirth of the Taurus SHO, this time powered by an in-house 3.5-litre turbocharged EcoBoost V6.

The 2010 Taurus SHO, to be shown at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show, features that 365 hp turbo V6 with 474 Nm of torque, along with a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle-shifters, torque sensing all-wheel drive system, a sportier SHO interior, subtle exterior enhancements, rear spoiler, 19-inch or optional 20-inch wheels, sportier suspension and more.

Ford also offers an available SHO Performance Package consisting of upgraded brake pads, recalibrated electric power steering for more responsiveness, a “Sport Mode” setting for the standard AdvanceTrac stability control and a shorter 3.16-to-1 final drive ratio for faster acceleration. Big 20-inch Goodyear Eagle F1 performance tyres on premium painted wheels also are included.

The new Taurus SHO interior includes leather-trimmed seats with suede inserts, SHO aluminium pedals are trimmed in aluminum, aluminium cabin trim, unique floor mats, intelligent key with start button, capless fuel-filler system, Ford SYNC voice-activated communications and entertainment system, ambient lighting, and a bunch of airbags.

Available options on the 2010 Taurus SHO include a reverse camera, adaptive cruise control, collision warning with brake support, blind-spot alerts, multi-contour seats with with heated and cooled first-row positions, navigation system includes a 10 GB music juke box hard drive, Sony Audio System with 12 speakers, and more. It seems that the Taurus SHO gets everything cool from Ford’s current and former luxury brands, such as Jaguar and Volvo.

The 2010 Taurus SHO will be available in American dealerships by this summer at a base price of US$ 37,995. It is unlikely that the SHO version will be offered in the UAE and GCC markets, given Ford’s conservative brand strategy here. So we do not expect these fast cars to hit the streets of Dubai anytime soon, unless they surprise us.
