Aston Martin Rapide officially debuts

2010 Aston Martin Rapide
The Aston Martin Rapide, the self-proclaimed “world’s most elegant four-door sports car,” has officially debuted at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. After months of leaks and speculation, the Rapide does not hold any surprises, except maybe in the way the doors open.

The four-door Rapide supposedly accommodates four adults, although we wouldn’t take their word for it. Four ‘swan wing’ doors provide access to four leather-lined sports seats. A 301-litre luggage compartment is good for a few bags and not much else. The rear seats fold flat at the touch of a button, and also get individual a/c controls and optional DVD screens.

Other features include 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive damping double-wishbone suspension, disc brakes with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, keyless entry with a fancy glass key, electronic parking brake and something called Positive Torque Control. The entertainment system comes with a 1000W Bang & Olufsen BeoSound audio system, navigation, iPod jacks and Bluetooth.

Options include cooled front and rear seats, rear DVD screens with 6-disc DVD player, various wood trim finishes, colour-keyed steering wheel, second glass key, “magnum silver” rear lamps, various wheel finishes, personalised door-sill plaques, alarm and tracking device, first-aid kit, rear badge delete and an ashtray with cigar lighter, among others.

The 1950 kg Aston Martin Rapide features a hand-built 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 470 hp at 6000 rpm and 600 Nm of peak torque at 5000 rpm. A 6-speed “Touchtronic 2” automatic transmission is standard, allowing the driver to change gear automatically or manually via the steering column-mounted magnesium paddles.

The 0-100 kph acceleration run is achieved in 5.3 seconds, with a top speed of 303 kph.

First deliveries of the Rapide will commence early in 2010 and is expected to be available in the UAE and other GCC countries soon after. The Rapide has been priced at more than Dhs 650,000 for the U.K. market.

  1. darn! i love the interior! i like the exterior too. not too shaby but my personal fave of these sports-cars-turn-sedans is the lambo’s estoque while the least appealing being the porche.

  2. ugly interior….

  3. I dont know whats the case but british carmakers arent being creative when it comes to interiors… Even the Rolls roye Phantom has an ugly boxy interior… Id expect more creativity for the price im paying..

  4. 650k?? thats really reasonable.. considering they sell th v8 vantage here for that price!
but im guessing its going to cost a lot more once it comes here!

  5. i think you made a mistake with the price.. its £150,000 in uk.. which is around Dhs 900,000..
