Mitsubishi’s Australian division is the one to announce the redesign of the 2010 Outlander, featuring a new nose that mimics that of the Lancer Evo for no apparent reason.

Other new features include the addition of Hill Start Control to automatic transmission models as well as Super All Wheel Control to V6 models.

The 2010 Outlander’s new face was first seen on the Mitsubishi Outlander GT Prototype displayed at the 2009 New York Auto Show.

Complementing the exterior changes, the Outlander interior design has been freshened with the addition of new seat, door and dash trims, grained leather on premium models, double-stitching, chrome accents and a brilliant new instrument cluster. Additional Lancer-Evolution-inspired design cues include available aluminium racing-style pedals and a sport-type steering wheel.

Technological upgrades for the new Outlander include the addition of Mitsubishi’s acclaimed Super-All Wheel Control system (S-AWC) to V6 models, improvements to power delivery and fuel economy, the addition of Hill Start Control for all CVT and automatic models, and USB inputs for audio.

Merging Mitsubishi’s experience in off-road and rally racing with production car development, the V6 Outlander features the revolutionary Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. Using a first-in-class active front limited-slip differential and an electronically controlled four-wheel drive coupling, S-AWC can prevent wheel slip between front to rear and side-to-side, providing greater traction through all types of terrain and inclement weather, including ice, snow and rain.

The 2010 Outlander continues with the choice of a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder with 5-speed manual or CVT automatic, and a 3.0-litre V6 with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Safety features on the Australian-spec Outlander include front airbags, optional side airbags, stability control, ABS with EBD and RISE body protection and three-point ELR seatbelts.

Other features include optional HID headlamps with Adaptive Front Lighting System which includes automatic levelling, and reverse parking sensors, with optional rear-view camera. Entry level variants come with electric windows, remote-control locking, Hill Start Assist, USB ports, and a new instrument panel. Options include 18-inch wheels, smart key, seven seats, leather, sunroof, Bluetooth and more. The Aussie version even gets a 5-year overall warranty, with a 10-year powertrain warranty.

Expect the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander to quietly reach the UAE and other GCC markets by the end of the year. Keep track of prices and specs in the Mitsubishi Outlander buyer guide.
