BMW M3 GTS track-ready variant revealed

2010 BMW M3 GTS
The latest BMW M3 is already an allegedly capable machine, but the German firm went further and has created a road-legal M3 GTS variant that seems more suited to the track instead.

The orange Bimmer comes with a set of unique 19-inch competition alloy wheels, wrapped in 225/35 front and 285/30 rear tyres. The brakes are now six-piston calipers up front and four in the rear, with firmer yellow-coloured springs and adjustable suspension.

A large front splitter and enormous rear wing enhance aerodynamics, while the interior has been stripped down to reduce weight. Fitted instead are racing bucket seats, an emergency fuel cut-off switch and a fire extinguisher, while the a/c, navigation system and stereo have been removed. There are mounting points for a roll cage and six-point harnesses, while a “Macrolon” rear window replaces the stock glass one.

The BMW M3 GTS weighs in at 1490 kg, some 190 kg less than the standard M3 coupe. Specs for the tuned 4.4-litre V8 haven’t been released, but is expected to be around 450 hp, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automanual. It is expected to be priced at the equivalent of Dhs 625,000 when it goes on sale in Germany next summer. It is unlikely that this model will be offered in the UAE or GCC.
