Ford Mustang GT getting 5.0 V8 for 2011

Leaked information confirms what has been rumoured for almost a year now. The 2011 Ford Mustang GT is receiving an all-new 5.0-litre V8, marking the return of the Mustang “5.0” badge that was last seen in the mid 1990s.

The new aluminium-block 5.0-litre V8, technically displacing 4951 cc, will apparently make 412 hp at 6500 rpm, with 528 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm and redline at 7000 rpm. This modern 32-valve DOHC V8 is fairly efficient, with fuel economy rated at around 11.5 litres/100 km.

Also available will be either a 6-speed automatic or a new 6-speed manual gearbox. Weighing in less than 5 kg heavier than the outgoing 2010 Mustang GT with the 4.6-litre V8, the 2011 version also gets better brakes and 18-inch alloys, while Brembo brakes and 19-inch wheels are optional. The Mustang GT continues to retain its rear live-axle suspension.

The 2011 Mustang 5.0 will debut at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month, alongside the updated 2011 Mustang V6. It should reach the UAE and GCC by the summer of 2010.
