Nissan Micra 2011 coming to UAE and GCC

Nissan unveiled the all-new 2011 Micra at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. While the previous generation was a mini Europe-only hatchback almost as quirky as the Mini, the latest variant is intended to be a “world car” and as such, has been dumbed down to look like a 1990s Korean clunker.

The new Micra does have a roomier interior and improved engine options. Developed in Japan, the Micra will instead be built at four plants based in Thailand, India, Mexico and China. The 2010-2011 model goes on sale in select markets in the Far East this month, with European sales in November. It has already been announced that the Micra will come to the GCC, including the UAE, by next year.

Engine choices will vary by market, with only two being offered in Europe. These include the brand new 78 hp 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine with 108 Nm of torque. A supercharged 96 hp 1.2-liter direct-injection engine with 142 Nm will also be offered, with start/stop functionality. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a new CVT automatic.

Equipment levels are respectable for something with a hard-plastic cabin. Depending on the market and trim level, the Micra comes with power windows, intelligent keyless entry with starter button, touch-screen audio and a satellite navigation system, glass roof, and rain-sensing wipers. The European version comes standard with ABS, dual front airbags, curtain and side airbags, and stability control, though it is unlikely that these will be standard in the Middle East.

  1. Micra was the first car I bought in 1994 after graduation and I drove it on Lebanon roads for more than 3 years.
It was very rialable car and used to make 250-275 Km in every 20 liter of fuel. So in Lebanon where the fuel is expensive this car worth every penny.
I am not sure it is suitable for the GCC with these small engines. My car was manual and without AC.
So I doubt if anyone would buy it here!

  2. It will sell, if Suzuki Alto and Chevrolet Spark and Sirion and Getz and and and… can sell, There are plenty of tiny cars around with 1 litre series engine.

  3. Such cars are really unsafe on dubai highways imo, you would be better off buying a second hand car than getting something like this new…could be a matter of life and death :S

  4. Yak I hate the way it looks. Come on Nissan your engineers could have done a far more better job than this. It wasn’t expected out of you .

  5. With the recent lesson people learned from the financial crisis and more folks becoming cost consious, also with fuel prices expect to continue to keep rising, i think this will do great as a daily use car for city driving. We already have enough traffic and home to office trips would be best in this car. One may wish to keep a stronger second hand 4×4 or a mid-range saloon as a weekend car for long drives. I personally switched from a 5.3 liter 8 cyl car to a 1.4 liter 4 cyl car and i am saving around AED 4000 per month on total costs (fuel, service, repairs, bank installments, etc). About life/death….i believe its on the driving skills, there are folks dying everyday in the strongest 4x4s too in the uae.

  6. i like this car. its cute! mixed of Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Frog. hopefully it wont be that expensive as i will to get one. hmmm….

  7. The Micra is here at the AD showroom , wow its such a great car.Doesnt give the cheap feel at all like a Yaris
Even the brochure is pretty good.

  8. I think 1.6 L will be a good choice for GCC. Hope they will introduce one.

  9. how many person sold micra in 2011 and 2014 in the UAE
