Mercedes Benz has revealed their latest B-Class compact minivan-style hatchback “tourer” ahead of the official unwrapping ceremony at the upcoming 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new B-Class shall feature new powertrains and a host of new technologies. The new engines supposedly mark the launch of a completely new engine series and have been designed for both transverse and longitudinal installations. Two turbocharged 1.6-litre gasoline engines featuring Mercedes-Benz direct injection systems and rated at 122 hp and 200 Nm of torque, and 156 hp and 250 Nm of torque, shall be available. A couple of new turbocharged 1.8-litre 4-cylinder common rail direct-injection diesel engines rated at 109 hp and 250 Nm of torque, and 136 hp and 300 Nm of torque, will also be offered. Power shall be transferred to the front wheels by a choice of 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual clutch transmissions.

Other features include Adaptive headlamp assist, Blind Sport Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Attention Assist, Speed Limit Assist, Active Parking Assist, Brake Hold function, Hill Hold function, LINGUATRONIC, Reversing camera, DISTRONIC Plus, radar-based Collision Prevention Assist and Brake Assist, PRE-SAFE crash safety, COMAND Online multimedia system with internet access and featuring a choice of 5.8-inch or 7-inch colour TFT screens and much more.

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class prototype was spotted hot-weather testing in Dubai under fairly heavy camouflage, and that hints at its availability in UAE, Saudi Arabia and rest of the GCC, possibly by sometime next year.

Keep track of updates in the Mercedes-Benz B-Class buyer guide.

  1. God, Cars are just getting uglier day by day

    • General car design of nowadays can be explained as follows:
Carmakers want to be creative and original and they think its a matter of how much they twist and turn lines on a baloon shaped figure..

I would like to sign a petition asking carmakers to dealy or slow down on producing new designs and start taking their time sitting behind the sketch board instead..

  2. Yesterday I saw 2 camouflaged 4 door saloon and I am sure its a Merc so i am guessing its the 2013 CLC….

  3. aaggghhh!!! another one .

  4. i think that mercedes should only design sedan cars, because all hatchbacks are ugly

  5. agree that it doesnt look as good as – lets say a CLS or a a7 – but at the same time this car is cheap and highly useful. especially for smaller families and older people, this car is hugely popular in germany.

i think this one is a clear improvement over the outgoing version
