BMW M6 2012 coupe and cabriolet revealed

BMW has unveiled their latest iteration of the BMW M6. Essentially an M5 with two doors, the M6 will first be released as a convertible, followed by a coupe a bit later.

The M6 Coupe and Cabriolet both use the same twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8, good for 560 hp, as well as 677 Nm of torque from 1500 rpm and 5750 rpm, with a 7200 rpm redline. Mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automanual gearbox, BMW claims the M6 Coupe will do the 0-100 kph run in 4.2 seconds, with the Cabriolet taking 4.3 seconds. Fuel economy is apparently better by 30% compared to the old V10-powered model.

Other mechanical features include BMW’s electronically-controlled Active M Differential, massive 16.1-inch carbon-ceramic rotors in front with blue 6-piston calipers, 15.6-inch rotors in the back with a single-piston caliper, M-specific 19-inch alloys with 265/40 ultra-high performance tyres in front and 295/35 tyres in the rear, with 20-inch available as an option, and a carbon-fibre roof for the Coupe.

Sales of the 2012-model convertible will start by summer this year in Europe, with the coupe coming later in the summer as a 2013 model. The Cabriolet will debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show, with the coupe debuting at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Expect the cars to reach showrooms in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and other GCC countries by the end of the year.
