Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG turbo set for 2013 debut

The premium hatchback segment is getting serious attention from German auto manufacturers nowadays. Audi already has played their cards with the RS3 to show and BMW have the M135i to ace it. Now Mercedes-Benz has thrown the A45 AMG into the mix.

The Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG, which is expected to launch early 2013, will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine. It is estimated to notch figures like 370 hp and 400 Nm of torque, matching the competition for brute force.

All that AMG-sourced torque will be multiplied by a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox before it distributes itself to all four wheels. Rumour has it that, it will have an AWD chassis with RWD handling attributes.

Besides what’s under the hood, the car will also get aerobody reworks and suspension tuning to add to the very sporty A250 Sport pictured in our gallery. The 5-seconds 0-100 kph runs are a norm in this segment and the A45 AMG won’t be any different. Enhancing fuel economy will be the start/stop function coupled with regenerative braking.

Expect the new model to debut in early 2013, although it is unknown if the A-Class will be offered in the GCC.
