Massive recall for Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, maybe GM & BMW

Carmakers share so many standardised parts due to having common parts suppliers nowadays that if one of these bits turn out to be faulty, several unrelated car brands are affected. Such is the case with the latest mass recall of 3.4 million vehicles produced by four unrelated Japanese carmakers between 2000 and 2004 for faulty airbags produced by parts-supplier Takata Corp. Information is also emerging that General Motors and BMW may also be affected.

Vehicles from Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda are being recalled because the passenger-side front airbag may not inflate properly in a crash.

Toyota is globally recalling around 1.73 million cars, including the 2001-2003 Toyota Corolla, Camry and Tundra as well as the Lexus SC430.

Honda is recalling 1.14 million models, including certain cars among the 2001-2003 Civic, CR-V, Odyssey and Stream models.

Nissan is recalling 480,000 cars, while Mazda accounts for 45,463, though models are not specified yet. Takata apparently supplied faulty airbags to non-Japanese automakers as well, but it is not known at this time which brands they are, although some reports suggest BMW and General Motors may be included.

Model lines in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries are also affected by this recall, although dealers may have a tough time contacting customers, considering how old the cars are.

  1. Toyota Honda Nissan Mazda owners are silent

  2. I drove Honda for 4 years…no issues…

  3. Please read the article carefully. “Vehicles from Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda are being recalled because the passenger-side front airbag may not inflate properly in a crash.”

So unless you have a crash, you will never know whether there is an issue or not.

  4. The bottom line is one has to be alive after a crash to know what parts worked and what did not. So much for ‘safety’ in our world.

  5. ya wondering …. otherwise as soon as a new Toyota,Honda, Nissan or Mazda model is launched, o god wow, this is the best i have ever seen, i am going to buy one tomorrow.
