Google builds their own self-driving car without steering wheel

Google, a company that we hear does internet stuff, has gone ahead and built their own car, and a self-driving one at that, with not even a steering wheel.

Once the fantasy element of sci-fi movies, the prototype self-driving car is designed to operate safely and autonomously without requiring human intervention. This is the first time that they’ve built a complete car, unlike their previous prototypes, which were Toyota Prius and Lexus RX models with equipment tacked on. The cars can read road conditions, figure out cyclist signals and even spot construction signs.

It is unlikely that a car with a completely human-free driving experience will ever be allowed on the streets, based on current laws, but things could change in a decade or two. And we could send babies to do test-drives for us.

Maybe the GCC-spec version will even have an automated tailgating option. What other features would you like to see?

What do you think?

  1. Automated tailgating X)

But automatically driven cars would probably all drive according the speed limit and keep a safe distance between each other.
No need to tailgate I guess.

  2. Always wanted a High powered LED bar to flash back at the drivers who flash us with their Xenon. Possible on a SUV but would like to see it standard anything smaller, specially in the GCC.

  3. think of remote car hacking!! You may be taken somewhere you do not want to go. I would not trust Google. They are mainly interested in collecting your private data. This car can be a disaster for many blokes. It will store a lot of history you do not want it stored there. Imagine the kind of ads that will appear on the screen depending on your visited destinations!!
