Porsche has revealed the 2016 911 Carrera, ahead of its official world debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The main talking point is the engine though, with a new turbocharged engine which significantly improves performance over the outgoing model. Just to get an idea of how much better the performance is over the old model, the new 911 Carrera is 10 seconds faster in the famous Nurburgring track in Germany.

Under the hood, the new 911 Carrera gets a new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre 6-cylinder engine. For the standard Carrera, the motor produces about 365 hp and 450 Nm of torque, and for the Carrera S, the engine churns out 414 hp and 500 Nm of torque.

When the 911 Carrera coupe is equipped with a PDK transmission and the Sport Chrono Package, it is capable of going from 0-100 kph in 4.2 seconds. The 911 Carrera S coupe can go from 0-100 kph in 3.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 308 kph.

Porsche has managed to make the new 911 Carrera 12-percent more efficient as well, despite the increase in performance. When equipped with the PDK transmission, the 911 Carrera S has a fuel rating of 7.7 l/100 km combined, which is 1.0-litre less than its predecessor. The Cabriolet has a fuel rating of 7.8 l/100 km.

Standard on the 911 Carrera now is a PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) chassis. It also gets new shock absorbers and an optional active rear-axle steering system.

Exterior changes are hardly noticeable. It gets new headlights with a 4-point LED daytime running lights, redesigned alloy wheels and restyled taillights.

No interior pictures have been revealed yet, but Porsche claims it gets a better Porsche Communication Management infotainment system (PCM), which features multi-touch gesture capability and handwriting recognition on the 7-inch display. The navigation system has been improved while Apple CarPlay, Google Earth and Google Steetview are now compatible with the new PCM.

There are new and updated safety features in the 2016 911 Carrera such as an optional automatic speed control system, an optional adaptive cruise control system with a coasting function, an optional lane change assistant system and a standard post-collision braking system.

Expect the new 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera to arrive in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries sometime middle of next year.
