2017 Toyota Yaris now with CVT automatic in UAE and GCC

2017-toyota-yaris

The 2017 Toyota Yaris sedan and hatchback have quietly gone on sale in the UAE, and will soon in other GCC markets if they haven’t already. Visually, they look exactly the same as the outgoing models, but the big news is that the new models have switched over to a CVT automatic transmission.

Advertised as a “Multi-Drive 7S” transmission, it is not a 7-speed conventional automatic as some mistakenly claim, but a CVT with a manual mode that simulates seven gears.

The 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre engines are carried over, with claims of better fuel efficiency, likely due to the new transmission. The hatchback can be had with both engines, but the sedan can only be had with the larger motor.

Also news is the inclusion of safety features such as stability control, rear fog lights and a tyre-pressure monitor as standard on all trim levels (except maybe fleet models).

The base 1.3-litre SE hatchback costs Dhs 53,900 and and comes with ABS, dual front airbags, power mirrors and windows, keyless entry, manual a/c and 14-inch steel wheels. The 1.5-litre SE+ hatchback costs Dhs 61,900 and adds power-folding mirrors, auto a/c, leather-trimmed steering wheel, a 6-speaker sound system, smart keyless entry and push start button, cruise control, split-folding rear seats and 15-inch alloy wheels.

The 1.5-litre SE sedan costs Dhs 55,900 and includes the same features as the SE hatchback, with the addition of cruise control as standard. Moving up to the SE+ sedan will cost Dhs 62,900 for the same features as the SE+ hatchback.

  1. Ooopppsss…. CVT?????

  2. Whether you like CVT or not, I think this is a good move for a car in this segment. Much better than the outdated 4 speed transmission in the current model which revs too high at highway speeds.

  3. still honda city is massive for rear passengers as with yaris with tall drivers no space left even for kids with seats adjusted for a 5-10, 5-11 height big driver but not bad at all for office commute but honda ceats also favour fat ass like mine as yaris front seat bolseters make it un comfortable for fat drivers, rest good job with cvt and standard cruise wilk definatley sell well

  4. Sheesh I bought it for 39,000 AED back in 2006. How can they justify a price hike of 16,900 AED in 10 years?

    • What was your salary 10 years back and what is your salary now? Just compare it, compare the spec and increases in feature, seating space with technology offered and offcourse Toyota hype and then you will get the answer for price increase.
