2018 MG ZS crossover debuts, coming to UAE & GCC

MG has confirmed that the new MG ZS, which made its global debut at the recent 14th Guangzhou International Auto Exhibition, is set to arrive in the Middle East by late 2017. The new SUV introduces a new design language from MG that will form the corporate look of future models.

The ZS, resurrecting the name of MG’s compact sports sedan from a decade ago, is now a mainstream crossover that will slot in under the already-small MG GS crossover.

The ZS has some unique features such as an “intelligent internet system” that provides each user with an independent log-in ID. This system can recognise the driver and personalise functions such as remote control unlocking and air-conditioning. In addition, voice command can be used to open and close the sunroof, change the vehicle’s temperature, control music playback and navigation.

The navigation system is capable of independent route planning, map zooming by speed and responding to road conditions with zero engagement of the driver.

The interior comes with two-tone materials while the top of the console is embellished with a silver trim strip, and is equipped with an 8-inch LCD screen which houses an “intelligent interconnection” system. A rear-view camera and panoramic sunroof are also available.

The MG ZS will offer a choice of two petrol engines, namely a 125 hp 1.0-litre turbo with 170 Nm and a 120 hp 1.5-litre with 150 Nm.

The new SUV model from MG is expected to be available in GCC countries in the fourth quarter of 2017. While MG isn’t being pushed particularly hard in the UAE, the brand is aggressively marketed in Oman, where we saw bargain prices, 5-year warranty and roadside assistance, and a whopping 55% buyback guarantee after 3 years on some models.
