So we got a 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe

There is nothing more controversial than vehicles like the BMW X6. Dreamt up by Bavarian marketeers as a “four-door sport-activity coupe”, it has spawned a few imitators, including the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. This here is the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe, one of the fastest SUVs on the planet right now. But is the performance enough to overcome its looks?

Based on the GLE-Class (formerly M-Class or ML-Class — they themselves are as confused as us) SUV, the GLE Coupe essentially chops the top to theoretically up the style quotient. Despite your misgivings, these cars do lease well among urban elites. We kind of like it for standing out, at least.

Inside, it has the updated GLE dashboard, with the iPad-like screen on top. The gear “shifter” is still the column-mounted electronic stalk, which is probably the least-sporty feature in this AMG vehicle.

However, we are glad to report that Mercedes-Benz is continuing to improve their chassis dynamics, and the GLE handles corners better than the last ML 63 AMG we drove several years ago. More on that in the full review.

  1. a few of my colleagues own this beauty. this is an absolute dream vehicle. while i truly like the new x6, i would take this one over the x6 any day.

    amazing design and especially interior.

  2. Mercedes got some good looking models in its range – if BMW does not pick up its game from the design front it might actually lose customers (me included)……

……sad we getting rid of naturally aspirated engines in favor of turbo charged engines. Even this GLE has a 2 liter turbo which forms majority of its sales (sigh….)…..kudos on Merc for their 63.
