2019 BMW X2 M35i debuts with 302 hp
Climbing to the top of the unloved BMW X2 crossover range is the first ever four-cylinder M-Performance branded model, called the BMW X2 M35i.
The BMW X2 M35i’s turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine is not just the only M-Performance branded four-cylinder engine but also the most powerful four-cylinder engine in BMW’s lineup. Pampered to produce 302 hp and 450 Nm, the engine sends this power through an eight-speed Steptronic gearbox which gets “M-Performance tuning”. Though it is based on a front-wheel-drive platform, the top banana in the X2 lineup will only be offered with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive. There will also be an M Sport differential at the front for the enthusiastic bit of driving. All this tech helps the crossover to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in just 4.9 seconds.
The X2 M35i is also endowed with an adaptive suspension with two selectable modes, an M Sport braking system, and tweaked steering system for better response.
There are some visual changes too. The X2 M35i gets the M Sport Package as standard with a Cerium Grey paint finish, an M spoiler, and dual exhaust tips. The 19-inch rims are standard and another 20-inch model is offered as an optional upgrade. LED headlights and fog lights are also offered as standard.
Inside, the M Sport Package amenities continue to flow in. Three designs of M Sport seats are offered for better support during cornering and you can order seat belts that match the seats. The M Sport steering is wrapped in leather.
The production of the X2 will begin in November with deliveries expected soon after. You should see one or two on the roads of the UAE by next summer.
