Toyota Yaris gets completely revamped for 2020 in select markets

While the current generation of the Toyota Yaris soldiers into 2020 with little to no changes in the Middle East, a completely revamped version has been unveiled for more discerning markets.

The 2020 Toyota Yaris rides on the latest iteration of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), dubbed the B Platform. The wheelbase of the Yaris is about 50 mm longer than the current European/Japanese version yet it is shorter in total length than the outgoing model by 5 mm. The 2020 Yaris is also wider by 50 mm and lower by 40 mm. Despite the lower height, the 2020 Toyota Yaris retains the same headroom thanks to the lower seating position.

The 2020 Toyota Yaris has transformed its looks entirely. The front fascia is now properly aggressive. The sculpted fog lamp recesses and the diamond cut alloy wheels add to this appeal.

The interior too, has been radically made over. There is now a large 10-inch heads-up display for the driver along with a large floating touchscreen stacked on top of the centre console.

Powering the Yaris is a trio of three-cylinder engine options. There are petrol engines with capacities of 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre. An electrically-assisted 1.5-litre petrol engine is also on offer. The power outputs are not out yet but Toyota claims that the Hybrid model provides 15% more power and 20% better fuel efficiency than the outgoing hybrid model.

In addition to this, the hybrid’s old Nickel-hydride battery is now swapped for a Li-ion battery pack. This should drastically improve the performance of the pack and reduce its weight.

As of now, Toyota’s plans to bring the all-new 2020 Toyota Yaris to GCC are unclear, as our market switched to the largest lower-cost Thai-built model from 2015 onwards.
