2021 Lamborghini Huracan STO is their most aggressive yet

The Lamborghini Huracan was an important car for the brand as it replaced their most successful car at that time, the Gallardo. The Huracan delivered on its promises, spawning many versions along the way and becoming the go-to car for YouTube-influencer leases. Honing the Huracan to its sharpest self, Lambo has now revealed the Huracan Super Trofeo Omologata, a track-focused yet road-legal version of the V10 supercar.

The Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Omologata, or STO for short, comes in as a direct successor to the Huracan Performante, the most aggressive of all Huracans. The STO starts with utilising carbon fibre for 75 percent of its body, cutting down 43 kilos from the Performante’s weight. There are 20-inch wheels on the STO are made of magnesium alloy, helping with the weight cut.

With less weight to carry around, the 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 can do its magic even better. The potent mill produces the same 630 hp as the Huracan Performante or the all-wheel-drive Huracan Evo. Surprisingly, the track-focused STO churns out 35 Nm of torque less than the Performante and Evo, at 565 Nm. Fret not, there is no lack of speed here. The Huracan STO rages from 0 to 100 kph in just 3 seconds and then rushes on to 200 kph in just 9 seconds. The STO maxes out at 310 kph.

Though there is no bump in the outputs, the STO is surely a scary fast car. To rein all this potential, the Huracan STO employs Brembo CCM-R carbon-ceramic brakes from F1 cars. These sets can grind the STO to a halt from 100 kph in just 30 meters.  Also bespoke for the STO, Lamborghini adds three new driving modes: STO for the road, Trophy for the track, and Rain for, well, when it rains.

The area where a lot of work has gone into the development of the STO is aerodynamics. The bonnet, mudguards, and bumper are all fused into a single element at the front. The rear sports several air intakes that help cool the engine better. There is also a rear fin and an adjustable spoiler. All this combined gives the STO a 37 percent increase in aerodynamic efficiency over the Performante. Downforce is also improved by a mammoth 53 percent.

Visual updates on the Huracan STO are all intended to make the bull look more menacing than ever before. Lamborghini’s Ad Personam program can help you customize your Huracan STO as and how you need it.

The Lamborghini Huracan STO is not cheap. Of course, it is not expected to be yet its starting price of US $327,838 (Dhs 1,204,148) is significantly higher than the Huracan Performante’s 2017 sticker price of $274,390 (Dhs 1,007,834). Does the STO do justice to this price increase?
