2022 Mercedes Benz EQB debuts as seven-seater EV

The recently-launched Mercedes Benz EQS was a significant addition to the top rung of the brand’s EV lineup while the EQA entered the scene as a stepping stone to the marque. In a bid to expand their electric-car portfolio further, the Mercedes-Benz EQB debuts in China with seating for seven and a maximum power output of 288 hp.

The Mercedes Benz EQB, as the name suggests, is the EV version of the rather square GLB SUV. The front fascia is updated to gel with the faces of its larger siblings. A large black panel replaces the grill while the headlamps flow into it from either side. The side profile is the same as that of the GLB while the rear gets a full-width tail lamp, again an EQ design feature. The interior is almost identical to its fossil fuel-powered twin. Three rows of seats are standard in China while it is an optional feature elsewhere. If not in use, these seats can fold flat down, opening up a cargo space of 465 litres.

The heart of the EQB is still left vague but Mercedes-Benz speaks of some figures that give us some idea. Battery capacity starts from 66.5 kWh. There are no details on trim breakup or range figures but it is known that there is an EQB 350 4MATIC model with 478 km of range in the NEDC cycle. Mercedes-Benz says that there will be a long-range version too but does not speak of the specifics. An AMG Line trim is also part of the package, with a respectable output of 288 hp.
