2023 BMW 8 Series range gets a refresh

The BMW 8 Series was a new model that the brand revealed in 2018 to fight the now-dead Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe & Cabriolet. As a part of its mid-cycle refresh, the entire 2023 BMW 8 Series range gets a refresh. There are not many notable changes on the skin but there is more tech.

The changes apply to the entire BMW 8 Series range, including the Coupe, Convertible, Gran Coupe sedan as well as the hot M8 Competition. Even with its original design, the 8 Series is arguably the best-looking BMW available right now. The large grills on most other BMW models did make it easy for the 8 Series but there is no discussion on the fact that it is a looker.

With this refresh, thankfully BMW did not paste a massive grill on it. Instead, the grill is now illuminated which can be turned off. Other exterior changes are mostly confined to a few new body colours – Skyscraper Grey metallic, San Remo Green metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, BMW Individual Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey. New wheel options are thrown into the package as well.

Drilling down to the trim levels reveals a few more minor updates to the design. The M850i xDrive trim, on all body styles, gets the M mirrors on the outside, as well as an M logo on the grill. These were previously reserved only for the M8 model. For the M850i xDrive Coupe, a new optional M Sport Package Professional is available that adds black calipers, grill, spoiler, and dark inserts in the headlamps. In the M8 Competition, the exterior updates are limited to these dark inserts. To complete the package, you can opt for the old-school BMW Motorsport logos to be pasted on the car.

The biggest change inside the 2023 BMW 8 Series range is a larger infotainment screen. The old 10.5-inch screen is replaced by a 12.3-inch Live Cockpit Professional display. In the M8 Competition, there are optional M Carbon bucket seats available as an added option.

Under the skin, no changes are seen in the 2023 refresh for any 8 Series model. They soldier on with their respective engine options from the previous year.

If you need your 2023 8 Series to be more exclusive, you can choose an 8 X Jeff Koons edition 8 Series 850i xDrive Gran Coupe. This model offers a “multi-layer exterior finish in eleven colors,” and the “finest leather” as per BMW.
