2023 Honda Civic Type-R is the most powerful one yet
The Honda Civic Type-R is a hotly anticipated vehicle. With the latest generation of the Civic already in the market, data about the new 2023 Honda Civic Type-R are out and about in bits on the internet. This generation of the hot Civic is the most powerful of them all yet.
The engine in the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R is the same K20C1 unit used in the previous-gen model. But it is massaged to produce 9 hp and 20 Nm more. This takes the total output to 315 hp and 420 Nm of torque, the highest for any Type-R ever.
The increment in the outputs is not huge but Honda claims that they have fiddled with the tuning to make the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R perform better. The torque now peaks between a low 2,600 rpm through 4,000 rpm. The turbocharger is upgraded as well for better performance and efficiency. The exhaust is also updated for better performance and more noise. To handle its power, the Civic Type-R gets a 6-speed manual transmission. There is also an R+ drive mode and an Individual mode that allows more customization.
The Civic Type-R grows bigger
The 2023 Honda Civic Type-R is wider and longer than the existing model. The wheelbase also grows by 35 mm while the front track is longer by 25 mm. The tyres are also upgraded to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber for more grip.
Honda has not revealed any performance numbers yet. But we do know that the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R is 0.8 seconds faster around the Suzuka circuit than the outgoing model. This is definitely not much but we shouldn’t be surprised with just a 9 hp increase. However, a leaked image of a Japanese-market brochure in the Civic XI forum reveals that the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R will have 326 hp, but this may be specific to the market.
Among all the data that Honda still keeps undercover, the price is the most important one. We will only know about this closer to the launch of the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R.
