The German luxury carmakers had a good thing going. They all had settled on a sensible naming system for their respective brands by the late 1990s, cleanly designating the size of the model as well as the engine. Cracks started appearing when they had to come up with names for their new-fangled turbo engines. And now with the advent of electric models, all logic has been thrown out the window. While BMW and Mercedes-Benz have especially struggled, at least we know that anything with “e-tron” in the name of an Audi means it’s electric. Audi’s first step into the EV battlefield with the R8 e-tron was not that fruitful. They are on a stride to change this fate with the rebooted E-Tron lineup, starting with the decent E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback crossovers. Now they are adding a new body style to the lineup. The 2022 Audi E-Tron GT and sportier Audi RS E-Tron GT grows from their concept form into a reality.

To combat the rein of the Tesla Model S in the electric sedan segment, Audi has unveiled the Audi e-Tron GT. Fitting into a line of three e-Tron models from Audi, with the e-Tron SUV and the upcoming e-Tron Sportback, the e-Tron GT is still in its concept guise. But Audi forecasts a 2020 release for this almost production-ready liftback.
