Hyundai showed off a concept hatchback “coupe” called the Hyundai Veloster back in 2007. The compact coupe was a design study on how the direct replacement for the Hyundai Coupe would look like, considering the Genesis Coupe had moved too upmarket. The Veloster has already been spotted testing in Europe and elsewhere, but the Veloster prototype is also undergoing hot-weather testing in Dubai, even if it is winter here, as seen in these exclusive photos by reader Henry G.L.
The recalls were piling in hard and fast during this year. While we kept up with most of the ones which could’ve potentially affected car owners in the Middle East, we simply stopped keeping track around two months ago, because it became interminably boring writing up repetitive “recall” stories. However, we have a duty to at least highlight the ones which could matter, so here is a rundown of all the recalls in the last 60 days, most issued in the U.S. but which may also affect some GCC-spec cars. While the 2012 Hyundai Accent sedan debuted at different auto shows around the world, including the 2010 Abu Dhabi Motor Show, China is playing host to the debut of the 2012 Hyundai Verna 5-door, essentially a hatchback version of the new Accent.
The Hyundai Azera, a competent full-size front-wheel-drive sedan that fits in between the Genesis and the Sonata, is going in for a full redesign, and it’s going to be good.

And if that weren’t enough, there are not one, but two agencies in the U.S. that conduct crash tests, one being the NHTSA and other being the private Insurance Institute for Highway Safety —
Hyundai has quietly revealed that they are developing a larger new 5.0-litre V8 to use in the Genesis and the Equus full-size sedans, and it looks like the new motor will potentially be the best in the market.
Hyundai’s impressive run of successes is set to continue with the official launch of the Elantra compact sedan. Already revealed in Korea as the Avante, the Elantra sedan is a complete departure from the awful outgoing model, and is arguably the most futuristically-styled compact car on the market now, taking over the mantle from the formerly ground-breaking Honda Civic.
The hot new 2011 Hyundai Sonata is third in the midsize car category in terms of sales in the high-volume U.S. market, displacing the Nissan Altima while gunning for the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. But such quick growth comes at a cost, as the Sonata has now been recalled for the second time.
Hyundai has revealed three new models at separate venues around the world within the space of a week. They are i10 mini-hatchback, the ix20 hatchback-MPV and the Solaris sub-compact sedan that will become the next Accent.
