If there is such a thing as a start-up among luxury car brands, Infiniti would be one of them. Created at around the same time as Lexus a quarter of a century ago, Infiniti never really made an impact on the automotive landscape until about a decade ago. Since then, there have been a few somewhat interesting cars, and many that were mistaken for just warmed-over versions of Nissans. And then there was that whole naming-system change. The new Infiniti Q50 is the only actual new model that isn’t just a ‘Q’ rebadge of an old model. It’s been out for more than a year,
It’s been a busy month in the UAE as the Abu Dhabi Infiniti dealer opened a new showroom, the F1 in Schools programme had their finals, and the Dubai dealer for Nissan held a public launch for the new Maxima.
After giving out teasers for ages, Infiniti has finally revealed the Q30 at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The hatchback carries over most of the design cues from the concept which was revealed two years ago and uses the same MRA platform as the Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
This is the Infiniti Q30, Nissan’s first entry in the premium compact hatchback category, revealed in production form about two years after the public premiere of the Q30 Active Compact Concept. Only a single image has been released so far.
This here is a single released photo of the Infiniti Q60 concept coupe that will officially debut at next week’s 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The Infiniti QX80 is the flagship of Nissan’s luxury arm. So it stands to reason that they’d use the Nissan Patrol as the basis for their full-size 4×4, just like Lexus and Cadillac have done so obviously with the LX570 and Escalade respectively, and not one peep of discontent can be heard out of their well-heeled buyers who’ve paid a premium for their glorified Land Cruisers and Tahoes. Infiniti had gone further than most by giving their big-boy 4×4 fairly unique sheetmetal when it debuted in mid-2010 in its current form. And for 2015, they’ve given it a facelift that attempts to stifle the heckling that the unique sheetmetal has taken over the years.
Infiniti revealed they are now adding the Q50 with the 4-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine to the Middle East market.
Clearly, Infiniti is still in the start-up phase. Despite having started right after Lexus a quarter of a century ago, they’re still doing things a start-up would, such as continually changing the plan to keep going. They started off back then with nameplates like the Q45 and the J35, none of which survived beyond the early 2000s. Their flagship switched from a full-size sedan to a Nissan-based full-size SUV, the QX56. And most recently, they decided to dump all their old nameplates that were just beginning to gain traction, such as the G37 and the FX50, in favour of a Q-based naming convention that no one has quite figured out yet.
The engine specifications for the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge were revealed at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The Q50 Eau Rouge made its first appearance at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
