When we heard that Porsche Middle East had bumped up their test-drive period to a little more than a day now, we were more than a little pleased. Previously, Porsche used to hand over test vehicles for just six hours at a time so as to avoid naive journalists, drunk or otherwise, from trashing their cars. So we’d never bothered to drive their cars before, outside of their spectacular roadshows at local race-tracks. But things change, and we went ahead and asked for a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS.

Porsche announced the launch of its all new Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, a street legal variant of the 911 GT3 track-only race car. According to Porsche, the model, which is limited to just 600 units, shall debut boasting the biggest engine among the entire 911 series – a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre 6-cylinder horizontally-opposed motor rated at 500 hp at 8,250 rpm and 460 Nm torque at 5,750 rpm.

The last Porsche World Roadshow for the UAE was held two years ago at the Dubai Autodrome. It was a superb event for highlighting the entire Porsche line-up in one go. Seemingly open only to existing Porsche customers and us media types, it was a well-organised event that got us some wheel-time with the 2009 models. Porsche plans to reveal their latest variant of the Panamera at the Geneva Auto Show. The 2011 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid will be the sixth model in the Panamera line-up. It will feature the same hybrid engine found in the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid.
