The 2012 Sharjah Auto Show this year had some surprise exhibits this year, but interestingly, there were very few surprises at the 2012 Middle East Motor Awards. I being one of the 17 judges for the awards, there was always the possibility that my favourites would not win, but it seems many of the other judges had similar opinions to me this time around. As I’m flying over Dubai and Sharjah towards Ras Al Khaimah in a Bell 412 crammed in with 13 other people, I am thinking that helicopter travel isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. The flight is noisy, tight and industrial, completely at odds with the “luxury” experience we were supposed to be having. But damn is it quick. We reached our destination in only 20 minutes, landing at the Banyan Tree resort at the northern tip of the Emirates, having enjoyed a great view and not feeling fatigued at all for the 2013 Lexus LS launch event.

The 2012 edition of the Middle East Motor Tuning Show ran from the 15th to the 17th of March at the Expo Centre in Sharjah. Easily the UAE’s largest show of its kind, it seems to be gaining in popularity, with various firms showing up to display their wares, but this time around, an entire hall is dedicated to personal cars.
