Mercedes-Maybach SUV concept attempts to take on Rolls-Royce and Bentley

Ever since the Maybach brand was phased out in 2013, Bentley and Rolls-Royce have had no worthy adversary from the house of Benz. Though the recently-revived Mercedes-Maybach brand came up with ultra-posh versions of the normal Mercedes-Benz models, they are just not as prestigious as the Rolls-Royce luxury barges. Now though, it seems that Maybach is attempting to take on the SUV models from the British stalwarts. A early look is offered by the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept, and it is astonishingly gaudy.

The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury is a “unique” design, to put it mildly. The vehicle stands tall, giving out the vibe of an SUV but the body shape is that of a sedan. The front grille features the same sort of vertical slats found on the grill of the extra long Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Pullman model. The huge wheels fill in the massive wheel arches that will let the Vision tower over all the plebeians. At the rear, the main highlight is the retro-style split rear window.

Reports suggest the new concept is purely electric, churning out 738 hp from its electric motors that utilise a large 80-kWh battery. It also ekes out a total range of 500 km.

Though some people believe that the Vision Ultimate Luxury is just a caricature of the actual Mercedes-Maybach model that will be based on the unloved GLS-Class SUV, only time will tell what Mercedes actually has cooked up in their fume-filled labs.

What do you think?

  1. It’s so ugly, it even looks worse than a Chinese car.

  2. @Laborde ., you cannot say ugly, infact its a new design language.
