BMW 6-series Gran Coupe to debut at Geneva Motor Show

BMW will become the latest marque to join the “four-door-sports-coupe” bandwagon, when the all-new BMW 6-series Gran Coupe will make its debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March 2012.

The BMW 6-series Gran Coupe boasts more number of seats to carry up to five passengers. Sporting a stretched wheelbase, this car is over 100 mm longer than its two-door coupe counterpart, discernibly for enhanced seating comfort for the rear passengers. The 640i Gran Coupe will be the initially available model, with the rear-wheel-drive and xDrive all-wheel-drive variants of the 650i Gran Coupe following later on. The 640i Gran Coupe will be powered by a turbocharged inline 6-cylinder gasoline motor featuring direct-injection and variable valve timing. With 315 hp and 447 Nm of torque on tap, the 640i Gran Coupe can do the 0-100 kph dash in just 5.4 seconds before hitting an electronically-limited top speed of 250 kph. The 650i Gran Coupe will be equipped with a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine, featuring variable valve timing and rated for 445 hp and 650 Nm of torque. While the rear-wheel-drive variant of the 650i Gran Coupe does the 0-100 kph dash in just 4.6 seconds, the xDrive variant betters that time by 0.1 seconds, before reaching the top speed which is electronically-limited to 250 kph. All 6-Series Gran Coupe models will boast an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Besides the usual array of options common to every BMW, the 6-series Gran Coupe includes Dynamic Stability Control which combines ABS, Traction Control, Cornering brake control, dynamic brake control, start-off assist, automatic brake drying function and brake fade compensation, Driving dynamics control with 5 drive modes including an ECO PRO mode, Adaptive LED headlights, Navigation system with 10.2-inch high-definition display, Active cruise control with ‘stop-and-go’ function, a high-end Bang & Olufsen audio system, and a Head-Up display supporting 3-D graphics. An optional M Sport Package and BMW Individual range, both comprising of visual extras for the exterior and interior, shall also be available at launch.

The all-new four-door-coupe from BMW will go on sale in the West by the middle of next year. Expect the 6-series Gran Coupe to reach the UAE, Saudi Arabia and rest of the GCC by late 2012.
