First-Drive: 2023 Nissan X-Trail in the UAE

The new fourth-generation 2023 Nissan X-Trail has been completely refreshed and was recently launched in the UAE and the rest of the GCC. The new model has a bolder design and features lots of new technology and safety features. Starting at just AED 99,900, it is positioned as an urban crossover in a very competitive compact segment. Like its predecessor, the fourth-generation trims come with a 7-seater option as well. It follows Nissan’s new design language, which we have seen already on the new Pathfinder that was released last year.

2021 Nissan X-Trail revealed

Nissan recently took the covers off the all-new X-Trail. Better known as the Rogue in the US, where it is currently the best-selling Nissan, a lot of new tech has been added to the interior along with the fresh exterior design.

The front fascia gets interesting with the split-headlight design, but then things get conservative in the middle with the V-motion grille. It’s not all show though, as air curtains in the front fascia and active grille shutters improve the aerodynamics at speed. The rear design is also quite subdued.

The latest in a string of recent crossover and SUV launches from Nissan, the 2018 incarnation of the ever-popular X-Trail seems an intentionally conservative mid-life refresh focusing on aesthetic, refinement and technology updates. The “world’s best-selling SUV” according to Nissan – and brand’s best-selling model with 835,000 units sold in 2016 alone – the Japanese automaker understandably doesn’t quite yet feel the need to upset such a successfully well-positioned proverbial apple cart. Unchanged mechanically, the 2018 X-Trail instead builds a winning formula of adept user-friendly driving, versatile practicality and affordability. We drove the updated model in Lebanon.

2014 Nissan X-Trail unveiled in Frankfurt


The Nissan X-Trail had been up and about in the Middle-East since 2002. There had been no significant change in the vehicle’s design since its inception, the current X-Trail gaining some notoriety in the UAE due to the fact it is used by the Dubai Police for carrying mobile speed radars. The all-new 2014 Nissan X-Trail has officially been unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show this week. Incidentally, it is intended to be sold in several markets under different names, so our long-running version might finally be replaced in the coming years.
