Japanese firm builds water-powered car

This is probably the beginning of the end for petrol-powered cars. A Japanese company called Genepax, dedicated to finding ways to turn water into power, has unveiled what it calls the first practical car to run solely on water. The firm claims putting just one litre of water is enough to keep its automobile going for 60 minutes at a respectable speed of 80 kph. And the water can be from the tap, falling rain or even from rivers.

The car will continue to run as long as you have a bottle of water to top up from time to time, said Genepax CEO Kiyoshi Hirasawa after demonstrating the test vehicle in Osaka, so there will be no petrol stations on the roads of the future.

According to the company, the water gets poured into a tank at the back of the car and uses a generator to break it down and convert it to electrical power. It’s a completely different approach from the big automakers, who are looking at fuel cells that run on hydrogen as the next power source.

Genepax can’t say yet when these cars will hit showrooms. They’ve just applied for a patent on the system. But they’re in talks with Japanese automakers about the idea. Hopefully big oil companies won’t sabotage such technology in their bid to maintain profitability.

What do you think?

  1. really nice idea…imagine if you dont have water you can piss in the tank a keep going heheheheheeee

but i hope that this is gona be a highly considered issue for car automakers…imagine that ๐Ÿ˜• many things will change…actually the whole earth is gona change…even the economical situations for many petrol companies will change…yalla..lets see what the future will bring for us.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. wonderful technology….amazing idea

  3. gud …..1 litre water= 80km
get 2 dhs masafi bottle and drive around if emergency.Else get water from public places

  4. piss option is superb..

  5. hahahah nice ideaaa ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. hey guys this test vehicle in Indian built electric car REVA…i guess they using reva as the test bed for this technology…

  7. i think REVA is a division of TATA motors……they were into electric cars before i guess

  8. Knowing that oil companies will do anything to keep this out of the mainstream – I hope CEO Kiyoshi Hirasawa is wearing bulletproof undies… or at least his technicians are.

  9. and what about sea water?

  10. a good reason to start using your normal cars. melt those ice caps. water is our future.

  11. Water, The most abundant fuel source in the world. The only polution for this technology is moisture. This technology proven by genepax has high output per gallon of water. Down side, Fuel companys stand in the way of any technology that could hurt their profit margins. Will this technology make it to production? Probably not, simply because the petrol companies will most probably find a way to prevent this technology from getting to the public. But great idea. Maybe one day tree huggers will overcome, just not very likely it will happen anytime soon.

  12. Only when few ‘barrells’ of oil will be left, we will see suddenly every car company has some kinda hybrid car ready..you can bet on that!

  13. Running your car 100% on water can be complex, but if you convert your car into a water hybrid it is actually quite simple. The idea of converting your car to run on water might sound complex but it doesnโ€™t have to be difficult. The HHO electrolyser uses an electrolysis process to convert water into oxygen gas which is added to the internal combustion engine. It is simple in design and it comes from an on demand system which doesnโ€™t require any plumbing or storage. This system can help you to burn fuel efficiently and it will also decrease the noise of your engine and the wear and tear.hydrogen fuel cell car
