BMW 5-Series 2010-2011 officially revealed

BMW 5-Series 2010-2011 officially revealed

2010 BMW 5-Series
The outgoing BMW 5-Series has been out of production for several months now, so it comes as no surprise that the all-new BMW 5-Series is ready to hit the roads as a 2010 model, or 2011 as some may call it. Based on a shortened version of the new 7-Series platform, the 5-Series is longer than before, and comes with more space than the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, mated with engines that debuted in the hideous 5-Series Gran Turismo wagon earlier this year.

After flirting with funky design ideas, the 2010-2011 BMW 5-Series goes back to its roots of conservatively stylish cues. With the longest wheelbase in the segment and a swoopy coupe-like roofline, it is already guaranteed to be a sales success, compared to its bloated German competitors.

2010 BMW 5-Series

At launch, the new BMW 5-Series sedan will be available with a choice of a 400 hp turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 in the 550i with 609 Nm of torque, or a 300 hp turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-6 engine in the 535i with 406 Nm of torque. The 535i and 550i will be available with a choice of 6-speed manual transmission or a new 8-speed automatic transmission. Later, the BMW 528i will debut with a 240 hp 3.0-litre inline-6.

The BMW 550i is being touted as the performance flagship for now, with a 0-100 kph time of just over 5 seconds and a limited top speed of 240 kph.

When equipped with the Sport Package, the BMW 5-Series includes Adaptive Drive, which encompasses Driving Dynamics Control, Electronic Damper Control, and Active Roll Stabilisation. Optional Integral Active Steering will virtually change the steering ratio for improved stability at high speeds and ease of turning at lower speeds. Models also get an electronic limited-slip differential, 17-inch or 18-inch wheels, newly-designed electric power steering, stability control with sport mode, active blind-spot monitor, lane departure warning, night vision with pedestrian detection and turning Xenon headlights, among other gadgets.

BMW EfficientDynamics technologies are featured in appropriate combinations on each model, including features such as Brake Energy Regeneration, Electric Power Steering, a gearshift point indicator, active cooling air flaps, and on-demand operation of engine accessory drives. Lightweight materials are used to balance the vehicle and lower its overall weight, with components such as doors, bonnet, front fenders and suspension assemblies made of aluminium.

The driver assistance systems offered with the new 5 Series include an all-new Parking Assistant, Top View cameras, and Frontal Collision Warning with application of the brakes when ordered with Active Cruise Control plus Stop & Go. Other driver assistance features available include Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, a Head-Up Display, BMW Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection.

With the new 5-Series sedan, BMW’s 4th-generation iDrive control screen appears in two versions — with 7-inch dimensions and 800×480 resolution in standard form, or with the optional navigation system, in a 10.2-inch 1280×480 version with a wider range of features and functions as in the new BMW 7-Series.

Expect the new model to debut in the UAE and other GCC countries before the summer of 2010. Keep track of updates in the BMW 5-Series buyer guide.

  1. This car looks amazing! Can’t admire BMW designs enough! the car itself is cool too.

  2. superb… love Bmw.

  3. Awsome. Great design. neetly done!! well done BMW!!

  4. Better than the previous one.. They probably slapped chris bangle a bit to his senses..

  5. No..no..no..

    Call me a senseless embicile..
    but..
    Ugly, silly and ugly..

They’ve gone and extended the bonnet, drooped it downwards and gave it a pronounced philtrum to make it look like a camel’s forehead again.. or a Z3..

It seems like it only needs 2-doors..
And would make a nice coupe GT model..

I actually liked the stockiness of the previous model..
It kind of grew on me..

    But then again..
What do I know about BMW’s?..

    even if I’ve got one..

  6. Don’t like it….

  7. walla sahhhhhhh … al BM …. translation .. amazinggggggggg

  8. cant wait to hear bmw uae crazy silly pricing on these lol
an m3 costs more than a gtr in this country

  11. So u all r saying that the previous 5 series with those funny headlamps was good looking.. Sure the previous 5 was a new shape at its time like never before seen on a BMW but it looks funny.. and this new one rebalanced the looks of a BMW..

  12. Nyce ryde….duz ne1 kno da price of it..or got ne idea???

  13. Well done
BMW like Mercedes are always ahead of its time.
The previous 5 series was stunning when it first hits the roads; this new one will be no exception.

In 2-3 years we will see many other manufacturers copying the design features and technology of these new cars from Mercedes and BMW

For the people who don’t like these photos; just waut few months and it will grow on you.

For those who can afford it… lucky bast..

  14. ^ i just hate it when car makers copy pioneers like BMW or Mercedes… Not like they are missing something …

  15. well, it will always happen. not sure about merc but BMW clearly has some influence on other make’s designs. look at the cargo lid of camry and compare that to the previous generation 7 series’. Toyota seems to be trying to compete with BMW in designs but end up with awkward, uninspiring designs. and its not just toyota.

  16. I prefer previous design. I agree with those few who thinks this is fugly.
