Bufori Geneva, the Malaysian-built Australian

Bufori Motor Car Company, the Australia-based niche carmaker, unveiled their Malaysian-built Bufori Geneva luxury model a few months ago at, where else, the recent 2010 Geneva International Motor Show a few months ago. The company was founded by Anthony Khouri, George Khouri and Gerry Khouri, whose last name sounds like their roots lie in the Arab region, making this car’s origins even more vague.

The Bufori Geneva will not appeal to everyone. Featuring classic design elements such as the long running boards, the new luxury saloon also boasts modern styling cues such as integrated bi-xenon headlamps and LED rear lights.

The standard engine is a Chrysler 6.1-litre V8, good for 430 hp and 586 Nm of torque. An optional supercharger boosts the performance of the engine to a healthy 560 hp and 690 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an adaptive automatic transmission and limited slip differential. Standard 0-100 kph acceleration is under 6 seconds with a top speed of more than 260 kph.

The leather-lined interior is accessed by rear-hinged back doors. Individual fully adjustable rear lounge seating is offered as the standard configuration, with incorporated ‘picnic’ tables. The rear center console is entirely customised to the requirements of the owner. Some of the unique features include a fine tea set with instant boiling water and sink, an Espresso coffee maker or even an ice box. An integrated cool box & mini bar for champagne and glasses, a safe for valuables or a cigar humidor are also available. A multimedia system provides high-definition surround sound and a choice of 1, 2 or 3 touch screen monitors.

The semi-monocoque body is made of state-of-the-art Hybrid Carbon Fibre and Kevlar which is infused with Vinylester resin, making a stronger-than-steel shell. The Geneva is the first saloon in the world to commercially use such materials. The chassis is made using top-grade stainless steel. Underneath are modern unequal arm front suspension and multilink rear suspension sprung, with a fully programmable and adjustable airbag suspension.

ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Traction Control, Steering Angle Control and multiple airbags are also included. Optional driver assistance systems and technologies in the Bufori Geneva include a thermal imaging night vision camera, lane departure warning, heads-up display and active cruise control.

The in-house R&D and manufacturing facility in Malaysia “employs a mix of old & new school craftsmen who master traditional as well as modern coach building techniques.” Each BUFORI Geneva moves through 24 production stages and requires more than 6,000 man-hours to create.

Prices have not been released. While Bufori claims they have the capacity to produce 300 Genevas per year, they are limiting the annual total to just 60 cars. Bufori will focus their sales in and around Southeast Asia, the Middle East, China and India.
